What is Benzoyl Peroxide? - envioskin.com
We talk about our active ingredients frequently throughout our website and socials, but what exactly do they do? Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is a strong ingredient, and can be tricky to use if you aren't informed about it. The FDA has identified it as a  generally recognized as safe and effective (GRASE) active ingredient in over-the-counter (OTC) topical acne drug products. Only a short list of ingredients are effective AND safe enough to make this list.
So what makes it so effective, and why did we include it in our cleanser? And how is ours unique
According to healthline.com, "benzoyl peroxide works to treat and prevent acne by killing bacteria underneath the skin, as well as helping the pores shed dead skin cells and excess sebum (oil)." Because this ingredient is particularly effective in treating inflammatory acne, we knew we needed to include it in our core kit.
BPO can come in many forms such as creams, ointments, gels, and pads. One downside of this ingredient is that it will bleach any fabric that it touches. We chose to provide ours in the form of a foamy, aloe-infused cleanser so that you will wash it off and avoid touching it to your clothes, towels, or bedding.
The other downside to this ingredient is also its super power, its strength. When you are first trying it to treat your acne, we suggest using it once and then waiting a day or two to see how your skin reacts. It could become a little dry or red as it adjusts to BPO. Luckily, our formula is patented with micronized molecules which help it to be less irritating. Over time, your skin will get used to the process and allow it to work its magic! For best results, once you have adjusted to it, we suggest using the cleanser twice per day. The FDA trusts BPO for a reason, and we do too! It can be a game-changer for people looking to topically clear their skin, and we are thrilled to be able to offer it to you in such a unique way.
